Preambulatory
To the editor:
Shame on you, to “sic” your editorial pen on my use of the word “preambulatory” at the School Board meeting on March 24th.
Webster’s New International Dictionary of the English Language, unabridged approves these adjectives immediately following the related noun, “preamble”: “preambular, or preambulary, or preambulatory—of, relating to, or of the character of a preamble.”
The aforementioned unabridged dictionary, I am pleased to note, is available to you, as it is to our good students and teachers there, in the library of our Elepientary School.

(Editor’s note: Our copy of the Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary makes no mention of the word “preantbulatory” as an accepted form of "preamble.” It does however, define “ambulatory” as “of or pretaining to walking; , adapted to walking; occuring while walking.”)
