At the school board’s Monday session, Eastham questioned whether federal funds will be provided as anticipated as a result of budget cuts proposed by President Carter.
On Friday, Dr. Bloomer reported that he’d checked with the State Superintendent of Schools and had been told that Virginia does not anticiapte any major revisions in federal money the Commonwealth will receive this year. He added that the State Department of Education does expect changes in 1981-82 funds. Accordingly, the General Assembly has already made adjustments for the second year of the biennium. Bloomer said.
He also told the board that he’d asked the state department about Eastham’s suggestion on combining older children classified as educable mentally retarded (IQs of approximately 45 to 80) with younger trainable mentally retarded youngsters (IQs of approximately 20 to 45) and had been told this couldn’t be done.
