Between six-thirty and seven that Monday morning we got into bed. for the first time since we had left our own bed in Sperryville to days before, and slept soundl^-<but not for long. Our briefing papers had promised that, to give us time to recover from our long journey, the first day in Delhi would be free from programmed activities. But when we got there, our charming and competent leader, who had preceded us by a few days, announced, with obvious difference, that there had been a change of plan. An additional piece of hospitality that could not be fitted in anywhere else in our crowded schedule, and must on no account be ducked, required our attendance at luncheon that same day. With a sigh of resignation, we placed & wake-up call for 11:30, hauled out the best of our not very fancy wardrobe and duly reported to our bus at 12:30 sharp.
