All too often, those unaffected physically with cancer must still fight a mental battle with the disease. “It’s not an intellectual thing. It's not that they're afraid they’re going to catch it.” Nettles explained. “Most people today are aware that cancer isn’t contagious. It’s more of an emotional thing—they don’t know what to say. All too often, they’re sure the cancer patient is going to die and so they try to achieve an emotional detachment as self-protection against grief.”
