Commissioners of revenue have no official guide to use in valuing livestock and household goods. For farm machinery, however, they use schedule F of federal tax returns.

In Culpeper, Warren and Madison counties, a piece of farm machinery is dropped from the county tax rolls after it is depreciated out on schedule F federal tax returns, generally seven yers. Rappahannock allows a farmer to depreciate the value of a piece of machinery but it is taxed year after year, never dropped from the tax rolls.
