The infection can spread easily from nearby herds. Bibb continued. Other cows will lick the aborted fetus, dogs may drag the carcass to an adjoining farm, buzzards can carry the bacteria. In infected animals, abortion, usually in the last half of gestation, and infertility are the only symptoms and the only cure for an infected herd is testing and slaughter, according to the veterinary specialist.
