Then he sprays brush kille’r, makes four passes with a tiller to chop the soil fine and allows the ground to settle for a month before the seedlings are planted. After more than an inch of rain falls, Keim goes over the plot with a herbicide that will ^ keep the rows completely weed-free.
”1 don’t use paraquat,” he emphasized. “That will kill all the wildlife for 21 days. A deer grazes it and dies. Paraquat’s cheap but it’s deadly.”
