On December 13, 14, 20 and 21, Quail Call will host Christmas tree shoppers from as far away as Norfolk in Virginia, Damascus in Maryland, even as many miles distant as North Carolina. Most are repeat visitors to Amissville. The Keims do little advertising. They rely on word of mouth and return trips from former buyers who are sent a card each year, announcing when the farm is open for cutting.
Visitors bring their children, their parents, aunts, uncles and cousins in a search through row after row of everygreens for the family tree. After chopping down their pick, they can visit the beaver dam whose matriarch fought long and hard before giving up on her original homeshe, a spot that blocked access to-a hillside of pines. They can wander and watch for deer and other wildlife that have made Keim’s carefully planted woods home. They can investigate duck houses that stand waiting for Quail Call’s most important seasonal visitors. At the Keim’s tree farm, they can sample a bit of the simple pleasures of Christmas in the country.
