The Sperryville shop is her third location; before moving here in 1973 she had shops in Alexandria at Thieves Market and Old Town.
“We drove through Sperryville sometimes and we liked it,” Hugh said. “We realized we needed a larger shop and I was ready to retire. So we found this house and opened up here.” The Chrismans live in the building that houses their shop, sharing their home with seven cats as well as the dried flower business. They're open every day except Tuesdays.
Bring a child with you when you visit the House of Dried Flowers to see the window display of animated figures decorating the Christmas tree. When we saw it, the cozy scene was complete with a real cat asleep under the tree. The Chrismans have three children: Chris of Hughesville, Md.; Nancy Osborne of Lorton; and Alice, who works at the Mental Health Clinic in Rappahannock.
