The brucellosis bacteria causes infertility and abortions in cows—-disaster in an industry where profits depend on pounds of live calf weaned. But more importantly. the disease is very, very contagious to humans, according to Bibb. “Physicians are concerned because they’re seeing too darned much brucellosis showing up in people. It’s showing up all across the country."
In humans, it goes by the common name of undulent fever. Symptoms of the infection include cycles of high fever, listlessness, vomiting, diarrhea and aching joints. Bibb said.
