HEEL PAIN
The most common cause of heel pain is a tight plantar ligament—the ligament that starts from the heel bone, spans the arch, and attaches at the front of the foot. In this case, often the foot hurts more when a person first gets out of bed in the morning, or has been sitting for a while and then tries to get up and walk. In many cases the foot tends to rotate inward as the person walks which causes extra stress on the ligament. Obesity is an irritating factor, but is not a cause of heel pain. Sports and running may also be irritating factors.
Heel pain can be treated with simple methods such as strappings (taping the foot so that it will not rotate as much), physical therapy and medication. Surgery is usually the last resort.
