Christmas season at the county seat.
Friday evening, December 19, at the Town Hall on Gay Street (the former Methodist Church), beginning at 7 p.m., there will be a telling of “The Christmas Story” with carols accompanying, and costumed pantomimists acting selections from the gospels of St. Matthew and St. Luke.
Following this there will be a temporary exodus of the Players to sing carols in the streets of Washington, making occasional stops, and returning to the community tree opposite the courthouse to sing and to light the newly bedecked tree.
After this brief ceremony the group will return to the Town Hall for an open house. There will be cookies, warm cider and punch and, as it is hoped to begin a new custom in the county, all who can join these activities, which are free, are welcome.
One postscript: anyone willing to give or loan outdoor lights for the community tree, please leave them at Eileen M. Day's office in the Gopton House in care ot Mitzie Young.
