The Rappahannock Panthers opened up their 1983 season on the right track by downing the Panthers from Page, 9-8, at home under conditions more suitable for ice hockey than baseball.
Fresh from an outstanding season ont he basketball courts, Mike Leake took the mound in the first inning, fanning two batters. But Page converted off an RCHS mistake and scored the contest’s first run. The Panthers struck back quickly, however, when Pops Aylor stepped up to the plate and smacked a double with Jeff Porter on second and Robert Myers on third to put the home team in front, 2-1.
Page countered in the third inning with a smash single, knocking in two runs to go back in front, 3-2.
