Although that figure falls far below totals for the other counties ($104 million in Fauquier, $82 million in Culpeper, $f>0.7 million in Orange and $21.2 million in Madison), Rappahannock’s increase over the previous year was the highest at approximately seven percent. Increases posted by the other four localities ranged from ut>out four percent in Fauquier to six percent in Orange.
Finally, in evaluating the sources of revenue to support local governments, Rappahannock got the next to the smallest percentage from county taxpayers.
As of .June 20, 1981, Rappahannock’s budget was derived 41.8 percent from local sources, 44.8 percent from the state and 14.4 from federal sources. By comparison, Fauquier financed 50.4 percent of its budget with local dollars, Culpeper 47.4 percent and Orange 48.8 percent. Only Madison used a smaller percentage of local money (40.1 percent) to support local government.
