Rep. J. Kenneth Robinson was notified this week by the U.S. Department of Agriculture that approximately 2,579 acres in Virginia’s Seventh Congressional District—currently part of the U.S. Forest Service System—have been identified for further study for possible sale to the public as surplus federal property.
Robinson was informed that the forest acreages include 20 parcels in Shenandoah County totalling about 2,490 acres, and 89 acres in Frederick County. The scattered parcels are part of 48,577 acres in Virginia identified as potential surplus federal property. Some six million acres have been identified nationally for intensive study, in a national forest system that includes 185 million acres scheduled for permanent retention by the U.S. Forest Service.
