Rappahannock Citizens for Quality Education (RCQE) president Barney O'Meara reminded the" school board of the petition ' his group circulated last fall. Approximately 400 area citizens signed their endorsement for $191,500 educational improvements, an approximate tax rate increase of nine cents.
The superintendent’s proposal addressed several spedfic items listed on that petition and so met with the group’s approval, O’Meara said. In particular, the citizens support extra duty pay “very strongly” as well as establishing a teachers’ salary index scale, according to O’Meara. He also pointed with approval to plans for the high school renovation and inclusion of an additional math teacher at the high school and urged they work towards a better gifted and talented program and action on improved handicapped access facilities in the school buildings.
