This astonishing turn-out was the result of ads in the dog magazines as well as word-of-mouth publicity from the judges to members of other Kennel Clubs. Contestants came from as far as Lynchburg, and Maryland. “We had a lot of calls from all over the place,” Mar^ remembers. Yet she says she was expecting an even greater attendance.
“We would have had more if the weather had not been so hot,” she said, remembering there had been a major show in Fredericksburg the day before and many of the dogs were overheated. Their owners decided it was best not to show the dogs again so soon, she added.
