(Continued from Pane I:’) champs, having experience with the various breeds they hope to judge, having served an apprenticeship of sorts as the steward to a judge (getting the correct people into the ring at the right time as the judge needs them) and having what Mary calls an insight into ring order.
Mary has all of this and more. And so she was rewarded accordingly by her fellow fanciers. She was chosen in a national elecion to be one of three judges for the 1985 Collie Club of America specialty show in Ontario, Canada.
The AKC now holds breed seminars for would be judges. These classes include films and slide presentations to show points to look for in evaluating dogs. Mary has attended two symposiums of shelties (Shetland sheepdogs).
