With this foundation, the Amissville Ruritan Club was founded in 1961. Now, as it was then, its members come from Castleton, Viewtown, Rixeyville, Amiss ville and everywhere in between and beyond. They are men from all walks of life and ages— your neighbor, perhaps, or members of your church, fathers and taxpayers. Together, they volunteer their time and effort to raise money. An all time favorite is the annual 4th of July barbecue dinner. Other activities include the circus, donkey baseball, spaghetti dinners and sales of fruit cakes. In turn, the proceeds are given back to the community in various ways.

Annual cash contributions go to the following: Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Amiss ville Little League, local churches’ Sunday schools, the outstanding
