Marocchi added, they followed the tradition set by former county chairman Tiny Carney: that newcomers to the ranks of party workers could best serve as convention alternates for their first year or two.
First expressing his pleasure at the large turnout, Konick reminded the audidence that the purpose of Tuesday’s mass meeting was to select delegates, not vote on a candidate who will run in November for the U.S. House of Representatives seat vacated by 14 year veteran J. Kenneth Robinson. He stressed that those delegates will be representing ALL the Republicans of Rappahannock County at the upcoming conventions.
Konick questioned supporting the substitute slate of delegates presented by Farley’s supporters when it didn’t include a single person who had ever previously attended a Republican meeting of any kind in Rappahannock or contributed a nickle to the Republican Party of Rappahannock or ever worked for the election of a Republican candidate in the county to local, state or national office. On the other hand, the proposed delegates on the slate presented by the nominating committee have done all of those things again and again, Konick noted.
