Hart was for the midget-man missile and for two small carriers, rather than one large one. Hart also said that he was against the political use of the power of “big” labor.
The nouns used by both contestants were essentially the same. The differences were principally in their adjectives. The campaign may continue in this mood and be essentially a battle of adjectives if the linguistic interpretation proves valid.
Meanwhile, the public has been informed that the Mondale campaign is being re-thought. Possibly “resmelled” might be a better description of what is taking place or at least of a part of the re-examination. For olfactory tests or judgments or indications of such judgments have been noted in nitoeroOB Mondale statements.
Speaking in New Hampshire in February of 1980 in behalf of the Carter-Mondale ticket, the then vice president asserted, “I smell . Victory in this room.”

Most recently on March 2, he was quoted in the Washington Post as saying “There seeped into my campaign and maybe in my own mind, a front runner, inevitability, psychology that people smelled.”
This, amid the other odors of spring, may be the compelling testing method of this year’s campaign for the Democratic nomination.
The Hart supporters have not yet given a public report of what they smell.
