In closing remarks for RCQE, O’Meara commended the School Board and administration for fiscal responsibility and “living with a tough budget.” However, he hoped they would not face the same problems next year.
O’Meara stressed that the board should not submit a budget to the Board of Supervisors that would be “penny wise and pound foolish.” The superintendent had done a fine job of monitoring the system’s limited resources, O’Meara said, “but we see him leaping through hoops to put out fires and that gives him less time for educational needs.”
“I think you’re magicians to face the economic reality the Board of Supervisors gives you,” Frank Reynolds told school officials at the close of the hearing. “You need to advise the board on what the needs are in education and tell them what you need to have a first rate system. The citizens will come forth and support you and we’ll help you out.”
His promise was greeted with applause from those in attendance. r
