I am writing to urge all Rappahannock voters who want to see a Democrat in the White House - and Ronald Reagan retired - to come to the Democratic Mass Meeting at the Courthouse; 11:45 Saturday, to indicate their candidate preference. The race for the Democratic nomination now seems to be between Walter Mondale and Gary Hart. There are important distinctions between the two.
Mondale is running on a solid record of accomplishment. Too many voters, tuning in to 30-second TV news > spots, find this boring and "old.’',Hart is running on a carefully-crafted TV image, which viewers seem to find exciting and “new.” This re-! sponse is perhaps understandable, but it ignores the central question: which candidate, based on his perform niance, is best qualified to offer a contractive "alternative
