A contract with the architectural firm of Smithey and Boynton was approved by the Rappahannock County School Board on Tuesday, November 13. The contract is for the high school’s expansion project, and was approved with the fee understanding of $95,000. The land survey of the high school being done by Fanning Baumgardner may be completed by the end of next week, said Superintendent Robert Estabrook, now that an architectural firm has been decided upon.
Estabrook reported an increase in the insurance premium that was expected from the insurance firm of Dejamette and Paul of Richmond. “We had asked DeJamette and Paul to give us a figure of our premiums for this year, and the figure we were given was $16,000 and you’ll note that they are not misremembering or denying that, but they are now quoting a very different figure,” said Estabrook.
The firm raised its premium from $16,000 to $21,000, and the reason given for the increase was that premiums are rising now.
