For those who think all footraces begin with the bang of a gun, better think again. The Turkey Ridge Run II is scheduled to line up runners from far and near on December 1. Preparation for the race, though, began months ago.
The second annual 7.1-mile run is sponsored by the Castleton Volunteer Fire Department. With preparation time winding down and race time coming up, Turkey Ridge Run II was an important subject of discussion when fire and rescue volunteers met November 7 at the Castleton Fire Hall.
Appropriately enough, the run was listed on the meeting agenda as "Unfinished business.”
Organizer Leads Discussion
Philip Strange, vice president of the Castleton Fire Department and organizer of the event, kicked off discussion by reminding the audience of 15 or so soon-to-become-race-day volunteers that this was the last meeting before the run.
Mr. Strange reported that 14 preregistration applications had been received. He said the pre-registration number was better than last year’s at the same point in time. He added that most runners register on the day of the race, however.
