Marteny could be eligible for parole after serving eight years. Former Policewoman Settles Lawsuit Out Of Court
A former Warrenton police officer who sued the town for sex discrimination has settled the lawsuit out of court.
The terms of the settlement were hot disclosed.
Cheryl Anderson sought $3.5 million in damages in the suit which was filed July 2 in U.S. District Court in Alexandria.
During her Aug. 8,1983 interview to considered for promotion to corporal, Mrs. Anderson was asked questions about her strengths and weaknesses as a female, the lawsuit alleged. She alleged two men also considered for promotion were not asked questions relative to sex.
The lawsuit charged ‘'all the said defendants . . . intentionally discriminated against her solely by reason of her sex in denying her the promotion.”
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission ruled Sept. 1, 1983, that Mrs. Anderson was not denied the promotion because of her sex.
Mrs. Anderson, who joined the town police force Jan. 23, 1982, resigned July 17. Films Deemed ‘Pornographic,’ Removed
The operator of a video movie rental store in Herndon has complied with a police department cease and desist “order” and has removed three films from his shelves that were deemed pornographic by police.
Hentdon Police Chief George Winkle said the movies — Taboo, Let Me Tell Ya ’Bout White Chicks and Centerfold Fever — “met the criteria for pornography.”
Fire, Rescue Center Report Due In January
A Loudoun County government staff committee seeking a site for the proposed Fire and Rescue Training Center, designed to serve as a regional facility, is expected to issue its repent to the board of supervisors in January.
