Virginia cattle producers who voted in a producer referendum in August approved the creation of the Virginia Cattle Industry Commission by a vote of 1,571 to 1,118. The percentages of the voters in favor of creating the Commission was 57.65 percent. State law requires a simple majority for the creation of this Commission.
There were a total of 2,725 ballots cast or about 76 percent of the total 3,584 official ballots that were mailed ttt certified eaters on August V 1884. Thirty-six votes were disqualified because they failed to meet the deadline for the referendum.
The results of the referendum were certified to S. Mason Carbaugh, Commissioner, Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, (VDACS), following an official counting by the referendum judges. He in turn, will certify to Governor Robb and the Board of Agriculture and Consumer Services the referendum results.
