Gearing Up
for the 4th
Once again Avon Hall, owned by Mr. and Mrs. William Carrigan, will be the site of the Fourth of July celebration. The grand tradition continues.
Though still three weeks off, the event is nearly all planned, according to Roger Roach, president of the Washington Fire and Rescue Squad and organizer of the Independence Day celebration. Anyone wishing to set up a booth or organize an activity should phone Roach at 987-8101 after 6 p.m.
So far the agenda includes the following: a patriotic pageant put on by Sam O’Connor, two bluegrass bands, oldtime music, an antique car show put on by David Konick, cart and pony rides organized by Moody Aylor, and wine tasting.
The Washington Fire and Rescue Squad will hold a pig roast in addition to serving bratwurst and roasted ears of com.
The Rappahannock Association for the Arts and Community (RAAC) will run (at no charge) short movies throughout the day. RAAC will show the movie Yellow Submarine at 3 p.m. ($1 admission). RAAC also will hold an art show at the 'diddle Street Gallery.
Trinity Episcopal Church will have a white elephant sale as well as an ice cream sale. James Kilpatrick will serve the ice cream.
The 4-H club will serve lamb burgers, and the Band Boosters will offer palm reading.
