The United States Achievement Academy announced recently that Dottie Rinker has been named a 1985 United States National Award winner in history and government.
This award is a prestigious honor very few students can hope to attain. The Academy recognizes less than 10 percent of all American high school students.
Rinker, who attends Rappahannock County Elementary School, was nominated for this award by Nancy Scoggin, a seventh grade history teacher at the school. Rinker’s biography will appear in the United States Achievement Academy Official Yearbook, published nationally.
The Academy selects USAA winners upon the exclusive recommendation of teachers, coaches, counselors or other school sponsors and upon the Standards of Selection set forth by the Academy. The criteria for selection are a student’s academic performance, interest and aptitude, leadership qualities, responsibility, enthusiasm, motivation to learn and improve, citizenship, attitude and cooperative spirit, dependability and recommendation from a teacher or director.
Dottie is the daughter of John David and Amanda Rinker. Her grandparents are Charles and Dorothy Eastham of Viewtown and Amanda Figgins of Front Royal.
