Father’s Day is on Sunday, June 16, and the Virginia Cattlewomen are urging area residents to serve beef for the family gatherings during the weekend.
Mrs. Alison Hunt of Reston, Virginia, was awarded $200 for her Old Fashioned Pot Roast Sauerbraten recipe on May 18 at James Madison University in Harrisonburg.
The Virginia Beef Cook-off, now in its seventh year, is sponsored by the Virginia Cattlewomen. Five finalists prepared their family favorites on Saturday morning for the panel of food professionals who judged the cook-off. The judges spent an hour and a half behind closed doors making their decision for first, second and third places.
Mrs. Hunt’s winning recipe was handed down from her grandfather to her father. She said, “This is the first contest I’ve ever entered, I can’t believe I won.”
