Breeding dogs, especially the rare Shair-peis (there are 6,000 to 7,000 in the U.S.), is a job that Ylva devotes most of her time to. She is interested not only in the dogs she has now and preserving the breed for the future, but she is also interested in the breed’s past.
Shair-peis survived for 2,000 years in Imperialist China because of their intelligence. “Dogs had to go through tests in China, and only the most intelligent dogs were allowed to live. The others were slaughtered and eaten,” Ylva said.
