Plans for a “Bless Your Heart” Weekend June 28 and 29 at the Northern Virginia 4-H Educational Center in Harmony Hollow will be discussed at the annual meeting of the board of directors of the Front Royal-Warren County Unit of the American Heart Association Monday, June 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the Quality Inn.

New officers of the local unit of the American Heart Association will be elected and annual reports and awards will be presented at the annual meeting June 10. Unit president, Joyce Fritts, asks that directors planning to attend the annual dinner meeting telephone her at 635-5739 not later than June 5.

Preliminary rounds for the open tennis tournament will be held at 5 p.m. June 28 and will continue the next day at 9 a.m. Participants are asked to register at the center by June 20.

The 10-kilometer race will begin at 8 a.m. June 29 and participants are asked to register no later than June 22. A $6 registration fee should be made payable to the Northern Virginia 4-H Educational Center and mailed to the center at P.O. Box 1101, Front Royal. Those registering on the morning of the race by 7:30 a.m. will be charged $9. Trophies will be awarded in eight age categories for males from 13 and younger to 50 and over and in six age categories for females from 13 and younger to 50 and older.

Further information on the tennis tournament and race can be obtained by calling the center at 635-7171 weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

The Swim for Heart will be a fund raising project for the American Heart Association beginning at 9:30 a’m. June 29 with participants obtaining sponsors. A suggested pledge is 10 or 25 cents per lap for a team event and 50 cents per lap for individuals. Prizes will be presented to swimmers according to the amount of their pledges.

Members of the center’s kitchen staff will prepare the Good for Your Heart luncheon, scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 29.

The Heart Carnival, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. June 29, will feature a CPR demonstration, blood pressure screening, demonstrations and a film on emergency equipment and a display of fitness equipment. The Front Royal and Chester Gap rescue squads will demonstrate equipment and explain emergency services.

The Bless Your Heart Weekend will end with a water aerobics show at 7 p.m. June 29.

The public is invited to all of the educational events free of charge except for the luncheon, which will cost $5.
