Building Permits Up
So far this year, Building Tnspecter Emiel Smet has issued 103 building permits, 30 for single-Linily dwellings, the rest for additions or storage buildings. A total of 181 permits were issued in 1984.
In May of this year, Smet issued 16 permits. Six were for singlefamily dwellings, the rest for additions and storage buildings.
• Mental Health Poster Awards
Several students recently were presented with cash awards for their mental health posters by Dennis Wingfield, who represented the Rappahannock County Mental Health Association. The awards were made at both the RCHS and the RCES on Tuesday June 4.
This year’s winners from the elementary school were Grace Reynolds, Lloyd Slaughter, Melanie Moffett, Kenny Giles, Debbie Walters and Diana Hudson. Winners from the high school were Anna Hudson, Sharon Compton and Edward Welch.
Each year the local Mental Health Association sponsors the poster contest, which gives young people an opportunity to describe what mental health is.
• Prenatal Classes Begin July 8
A series of four prenatal education classes will begin July 8 and run through July 29 at Culpeper Memorial Hospital (CMH).
The classes will meet in the hospital conference room on four consecutive Monday evenings, July 8, 15, 22, 29 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. The cost of series is $15. To register, call Wilma Myers in the CMH obstetric unit, 825-2811 or 672-4322.
