Recently, Sharon Kilpatrick wondered how less is more. I shall now illustrate how.

If we could remove our attention for a moment from the cup that is half empty before us, we would realize that it is way more than half full.

Last year's school budget contained a few items, one of which was the funds for the whole new roof at the elementary school, and another, the architects’ fee for the high school addition, that I would like to shed some light upon.

It’s funny how in this public business, when we allocate over $110,000 in last year’s budget for a whole new roof, that we just take it for granted that that $110,000 will just remain in the, budget forever. But, in this public business, nobody ever even thought to remov# it this year even though no new roof is to be purchased. There is $110,000 that you never thanked the county for, that is still in the budget, but now just for the usual expenditures. ..

Then there is the $84,442 that was in the budget for architects’ costs for the $1.5 million high school expansion project that we’ve all now taken for granted, along with the seven cent increase in taxation that will be necessary to start repaying the principle and interest on the literary loan. I point out that this nearly $84,000 either has or will soon be reimbursed to the School Board by the pending literary loan.

On behalf of Rappahannock County High School athletes and coaches, I wish to express our appreciation to the fine parents of our athletes, whose contributions of time and covered dishes enabled our Athletic Banquet to become a real feast. We would especially like to thank Mrs. Peggy Woodward for her excellent organization and coordination of the meal.

To the editor:

It amazes me that in a country which was founded, in large part, in reaction to horrible taxes, we have half a county up in arms over a board of supervisors that wants to hold down our taxes!

It was made clear at the June 3 budget hearing that the supervisors had not yet made any decisions regarding any budget requests. Despite this fact many residents still are upset over decisions that the supervisors have not yet made and may not in fact make.
