Quick, without thinking: who mows the courthouse lawn?
What about the library lawn? Who mows that? Or the jail lawn, or the lawn at the Recreation Center — do you know who mows those? If not, it’s time you met Robert and Lois Peterson of Washington.
Since moving to Rappahannock County in 1977, the Petersons have gradually become the official mowers of the county’s lawns. In the Town of Washington they mow from the jail all the way to the monument next to the Town Hall. They also mow both the library lawn and the lawn at the Recreation Center, in addition to the lawns of many residents in Washington and throughout the county.
If the Petersons keep going at this rate, there soon will not be one lawn left in the county for anyone else to mow. Robert and Lois (the Dynamic Duo) will be taking care of everything. Now they mow a total of 30 lawns, which take them from Amissville to the other side of Sperryville. Their business continues to grow because of the quality of their work.
The county clerk, Diane Bruce, says the Petersons are outstanding people who take pride in making the community look nice. “They do good work and they do it when it needs to be done.” Also, Bruce is quick to note that Robert and Lois charge reasonable rates. “They know we (the county) are on a limited budget, but they do good work anyway.”
