Campbell advised the board that a check for $800 from the Virginia Consortium of Higher Education had been received for the system to purchase science and mathematics materials. Campbell was authorized to vrite a letter to the supervisors asking for their permission to use the money for the materials.
The board also approved a request from Michael Cotter, assistant principal at the elementary school, to pave 6,600 square feet of an area near the present playground for additional playground space. The job will be paid for with funds from a certificate given to the school by the Rappahannock Women’s Club some years ago.
When the minutes of previous meetings were to be approved, Nichols said that he had been asked about the board’s “secret” meetings such as the special meeting held last month. “I would just like the public to know that we have no ‘secret’ meetings, but we do have called meetings,” Nichols said. “We’re not trying to do anything behind anyone’s back.” Massie said that there is a list of people who are notified whenever a meeting has been called so that nothing is ever done in secret.
The Board then went into executive session to discuss personnel matters.
Dairymen Offer
$500 For Recipe
The person who submits the best dairy recipe to Milk —The Official Beverage Of Virginia Recipe Contest will get $500.
In celebration of June being dairy month, the Virginia Dairymen’s Association is sponsoring the contest to find the state’s best recipes using dairy products. Five honorable mentions will be chosen also.
Contest categories include appetizers, salads, main dish, side dish, breads or desserts.
Recipes must contain at least one of the following dairy products: one cup fluid milk, whole or low-fat, skim, buttermilk or chocolate, one cup cream — heavy, table or half and half, one cup sour cream, one cup yogurt, one cup cottage cheese, eight ounces cream cheese or ricotta, a half cup butter, eight ounces of cheese or two cups of ice cream.
The contestant must be a Virginia resident. The recipe must be typed or clearly printed on an 8V2 by 11-inch paper, must be specific and state the number of servings. Brand names should not be used.
Recipes will be judged on the best use of dairy products, taste, ease of preparation, originality and clarity of instructions.
More than one recipe per contestant can be submitted but each entry must include name, address and phone number. Recipe entries must be received by June 21. Mail to Dairy Contest, Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, P. O. Box 1163, Richmond 23209.
