Vo-ed reorganized
Vocational programs in Fauquier County public schools are being reorganized.
Believing vocational education has been ‘isolated too long,” new Vocational Education Director Howard “Ben" Kiser plans to change the image of the programs.
The Fauquier Technical Center and Fauquier High School, previously operated as two separate entities, this year are under the direction of FHS Principal David Graham. Four assistant principals will deal with vocational education and academic teachers.
At least one-fourth of FHS’s 1,800 student body is enrolled in vocational education courses this year, Mr. Graham said.
Planners OK center
The Fauquier Planning Commission last Thursday gave the go ahead for a proposed $3 million shopping center at Routes 17 and 28 in the southern part of the county.
The planners forwarded the recommendation on a rezoning request for the 10-acre site near Bealeton to the Board of Superviosrs, which will hold a public hearing on proposal at its Sept. 17 meeting.
Landowner and principal developer Leslie Jean Hingardner said he is planning 20 stores for the 100,000square-foot center. Co-developer and County Supervisor James A. Rankin (Center District) says he will open a supermarket at the proposed center.
Warehouse opening set
Pimpernel Place Mats and Coasters, an international company that sells its table products all over the world, in November will open its first permanent United States warehouse in Warrenton.
Actually, Pimpernel has been in Fauquier County for 10 years, shipping place mats to 32 states and several thousand specialty shops from its small Warrenton warehouse.
