But an increasing number of adults are beginning to admit that they did not receive the same benefits, that they are deficient readers. Some have simple reading problems. Others are functional illiterates, unable to understand the paperwork which has become so much a part of modern living.
Some deficient readers were undoubtedly passed along through the system, unaware that a problem existed, perhaps afraid to speak up and ask for help.
