Eugene J. Robson
Eugeie Jacob Robson, 69, died Sept. 2 at the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville, after a brief illness. Mr. Robson was a retired practicing attorney from New York City, and a resident of Slate Mills since his retirement in 1984 where he operated a bed and breakfast inn with his wife.
A combat veteran of World War II, Robson served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army field artillery in England, France, Belgium and Germany, and he participated in the amphibious landings at Normandy on D-Day and in the liberation of Nazi concentration camp victims in Germany prior to V-E day.
Mr. Robson was a member of Beth Israel Congregation in Charlottesville, a member of Thomas Jefferson Lodge No. 144 B’nai B’rith in Charlottesville, secretary of the Rappahannock Lions Club and an active member of the Rappahannock Historical Society.
Prior to his illness, Mr. Robson had worked on a research project in cooperation with the Historical Society and the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office compiling all of Rappahannock County’s laws and ordinances for publication. Mr. Robson was also a member of Retired Seniors Volunteer Program (RSVP) and did volunteer work for the Rappahannock County Library.
Mr. Robson is survivor? by his wife, Lorraine; two sons, Stuart Robson, of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Daniei Robson, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a brother, Morton S. Robson, of New York City; and two stepsons, Arthur M. Neufield, of Paterson, New Jersey, and Daniel Neufield, of Fort Lee, New Jersey.
Funeral services and interment were held at Paterson, New Jersey and were conducted by Rabbi Bernard Honan of Charlottesville. The mourning period will be observed at the home of Arthur Neufield in Paterson.
