The results of a Virginia Department of Education survey which are highlighted in the first of a three-part series this week revealed much about the public opinion of Rappahannock County Schools.
Perhaps the biggest reaction was our surprise.
Teachers have always been staunch supporters of the education system in which they work. The very nature of any good teacher — or of any worthy employee, for that matter — dictates that a high morale should be present and sustained.
Pride has always been a better motivator than anger or discontent. And when it comes to the education of this county’s youth, that education must be reinforced positively.
Even though teachers complained that the administration was not terribly supportive and that their superiors were difficult to contact, the remaining opinions suggested very strongly that teachers feel good about what they are doing.
That translates into a plus for the school system as a whole.
