After striking Mr. Woodward’s car the truck continued on and the cab struck the trailer of a northbound tractor-trailer. That truck, owned by Inland Container Corp. and operated by Howard Ladd, had driven partially off the right shoulder and up a bank (on Russell Grimsley’s property) trying to avoid being hit by Mr. Somers’ truck.
Three passengers in Mr. Woodward’s car were also taken to Warren Memorial Hospital in Front Royal. Jesse Foster, of Huntly, was listed in stable condition Tuesday night with a fractured arm and contusions and lacerations. Mr. Woodward’s wife, Susie, was later transferred to Fairfax County Hospital where she was listed in serious but stable condition in the intensive care unit. Mary Newcomer, also of Huntly, was also transferred to Fairfax County Hospital where she remains in very serious but stable condition, also in intensive care.
