for participation in a resource recovery facility. “Possibly as soon as 18 months, the Riverton plant in Front Royal may be on line,” he said, referring to Warren County’s consideration of an energy-producing trash disposal facility.
“What do we do with our trash in that 18 month period?” asked Supervisor Hubert Gilkey. “We talked about going to Harrisonburg but I don’t think people would elect anyone sitting around this table if we told them the price...$500,000 a year.”
“And we’d still have to maintain a landfill for our non-bumables,” interjected Supervisor Charles Estes.
Supervisor Newbill Miller noted that all adjoining counties and others beyond have been asked to take Rappahannock’s trash and have refused.
“Maybe one of the doors that’s been slammed in our face has just opened a crack,” interjected Supervisor Nelson Lane, indicating that one locality may have reconsidered.
“Well, call them — call them!” Mr. Miller responded.
