Rappahannock High School seniors Natalie Butler and Tara Fisher were named valedictorian and salutatorian of the Class of 1986, principal Bob Chappel announced Monday.
Both young women have pursued academic and athletic interests during their five years at Rappahannock High School. Miss Butler worked on the high school yearbook all five years, was a member of the National Honor Society, the Varsity Club and the Merit Club. She was a member of the girls basketball team for five years and played on the volleyball team as a senior. She was also a member of the Future Business Leaders of America.
Miss Fisher is also a member of the National Honor Society and the Varsity Club, as well as having been a cheerleader for three years. She also appeared in numerous musicals at the school, sang in the chorus and, this year, played piano for the school band.
Miss Butler said that she feels that Rappahannock High School prepared her well to continue her education at the University of Virginia, in Charlottesville. “I had some really good teachers, particularly, in math and languages. 1 feel like you get out what you put in (to your education).” Miss Fisher agreed. “There are not a lot of electives like you have at bigger schools, but the basics were taught well.”
