rv jjanci uiocu&&iuii iiiuutjrateu uy Laurie Marshall will address “Expanding Markets for Visual Artists and Craftspeople,” on Saturday, September 20, from 5-10 p.m. Five versatile and distinguished arts administrators and gallery owners will educate local craftspeople and artists in expanding markets to the corporate world as well as finding audiences through galleries.
On Friday, October 24, from 7-10 p.m., Claudia McCue and Nol Putnam will present a seminar in basic business and accounting practices for self-employed artists and craftspeople. Claudia and Nol are artistsblacksmiths. As proprietors of the White Oak Forge in The Plains, they produce hot-forged, custom iron work including architectural pieces, restoration and house hardware.
In the fifth seminar Sally Nash will discuss the questions: Why do we do our art? What is its meaning in our lives? Ms. Nash is the founder/director of the Last Minute Wood Company and chairperson of the Artists’ Forum. This seminar will be held Friday, November 14, from 710 p.m.
Making a living will be the focus of Sam Clifton’s discussion with slides on Friday, December 12, titled “The Eclectic Artist.” Sam is an architectural designer, builder/project manager, stained glass restorative consultant, fiber artist/sculptor. This meeting is from 7-10 p.m.
All of the Artists’ Forums will be held in the community room at Blackwater Homestead, a dwelling constructed in 1981 to house three families, with room for guests and for community events. The Artists’ Forum traditionally includes a potluck meal. There is no set charge for most events, but the creative audience class and the panel discussion will cost $3.
