6White Nights’ White Nights, starring Mikhail Barishnikov and Gregory Hines, will be showing at the Gay Street Theatre on June 7 and 8. Barishnikov, as a Soviet defector, crash lands in Siberia and winds up in the custody of the KGB and their American defector to the USSR, played by Hines. The movie is rated PG-13.
Flag Day to be observed Flag Day will be observed by the Culpeper Minute Men Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, on Tuesday, June 10, at a luncheon meeting at noon at the home of Mrs. Edgar Puryear. Co-hostesses are Mrs. Philip Brewer and Mrs. William Wetael. Officers for the coming three-year term will be installed during the meeting.
Washington homemakers to meet The Washington Extension Homemakers will meet on Wednesday, June 11, at 9:30 a.m. in the basement of the Clerk’s Office. All members and interested homemakers are urged to attend.
Homemakers dinner planned The Extension Homemakers County Council Polynesian dinner will be held Monday, June 9, at 6:30 p.m. at the Amissville Baptist Church.
Trail ride set A group of Rappahannock horsemen has scheduled a trail ride for Saturday, June 21. The ride will leave from Bill Lyne’s house in Gid Brown Hollow at 9 a.m. It will follow clear trails at an easy pace into the Park, down Piney Branch Trail, across Pickeral Ridge and back to Mr. Lyne’s house. Burke reunion planned The annual Charles Lewis Burke and Bessie Jenkins Burke reunion will be held Sunday, June 8, at the Rappahannock Park. All friends and relatives are invited to come and bring a picnic lunch, which will be served at 12:30.
Parks and Rec sports camps The Fauquier County Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring more sports camps than ever. Girls ages 8-15, there is a softball camp taught by Linda Aarons to be held June 16-20 at Fauquier High School. Linda is also teaching a field hockey camp for ages 12-18 to be held June 23-27 at Fauquier High School. For boys, Allen Creasy is running a basketball camp at Marshall Junior High, June 23-27. The camp is for ages 9-15 and bus transportation will be provided free from Fauquier High School for those who wish it. For boys and girls there is a soccer camp with Chip Rohr. The camp is for ages 7-16 and will be held at Central Elementary, June 2327.
All camps run Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, contact Becky at 349-1910.
Free physicals On June 9 RCHS will be offering free athletic physicals for any participants in sports next school year. Boys will be checked at 1:30 p.m. and girls at 3:30 p.m.
Pageant at First Baptist The First Baptist Church will present a pageant One Hundred People For Christ, Saturday, June 14, at 6 p.m. at the church. The general public is invited to attend and participate. A line-up rehearsal for the pageant will be held Thursday, June 5, at 7 p.m. at the church. All participants are asked to be present.
Five-year reunion scheduled The Class of 1981 is planning to hold its five-year reunion on June 7. For more information call 937-4496.
