Stonewall-Hawthome supervisor said that the board is attempting to adhere to all the recommendations from the Solid Waste Advisory Committee and, at the same time, also pursue “a crisis management plan.”
“The public will have plenty of time to have input before this board enters into any long term agreement,” Mr. Miller said.
The committee’s suggested criteria for site selection “are taken into consideration every time we look at a site,” said Supervisor Gilkey. But the criteria represent “an ideal,” he maintained. “I don’t think we’re going to find the perfect location in Rappahannock County.”
The advisory committee had proposed that a group of private citizens be appointed to work with the board on site selection. “That’s a real good thing, but only if we had plenty of time and if we wanted to condemn property,” said Supervisor Lane.
So instead the board is trying to find a willing seller and using unspecified standards to evaluate a potential site, countered Mr. Chuse. “Is this the best way to go?”
“No. The best way to do it would have been to do it 10 years ago,” countered Supervisor Lane.
