Col. E. A. McNear was
given back $4,000 for his zoning office — to allow him to stay open an extra day a week to keep up with development pressures — when the Rappahannock Board of Supervisors met last Thursday to adopt the budget and set the tax rate. Restoration of the funds did not affect the tax rate, however, since Chairman Newbill Miller and the other members of the board agreed with McNear that the increased fees and increased value to the county’s assessed valuation would more than “offset” the additional sum allotted this office. Thus, the tax rate was set at $4.10.
Dr. John P. Snead IV, director of the Fauquier Family Guidance Center, will be guest speaker at the June meeting of the Fauquier Association for Retarded Children Monday night, June 12.

Rappahannock County’s
population increase between 1973 and 1975 exceeded both the state growth and the growth rate of the other four counties in Rappahannock-Rapidan Planning District Nine, according to census information released by the Planning District Commission. Between 1973 and 1975, the county gained 601 new residents, an increase of 11.7 per cent, while the state growth rate for the same period was 7.1 per cent.
