Deborah Flinchum for The Rappahannock News THE WEATHER was beautiful, the spirits were high, and the enthusiasm overflowed on Field Day held May 26 at Rappahannock County Elementary School. The field day began with the students saying the pledge of allegiance, after which they divided into groups to participate in a variety of activities. Students were given the opportunity to participate in softball throw, spoon potato races (pictured), three legged race, sack race, egg toss, hoo-lahoop race, the 50-yard dash or long jump. Volunteer parents used stopwatches to time the two top students from each heat. Classes in each grade level competed for the top position in the tug of war and a water relay. At the end of the day times were tallied and awards were given to the five top scoring students in each grade level for every event.
