Rev. M. P. Maples
Rev. Malcolm Palmer Maples, 70, of Mineral, a former pastor of the Rappahannock Methodist Charge, died May 19.
Mr. Maples was serving the Olive-Grace United Methodist Charge in Spotsylvania County at the time of his death. He had previously served the Schuyler, Rappahannock, Mineral-Mt. Pleasant and West Louisa Charges of the Virginia Methodist Conference.
He had just been elected to his second term on the Mineral Town Council, of which he had been a member in the 1960s. He had also been acting mayor.
Mr. Maples was a member of the Louisa County Planning Commission and of Mineral Masonic Lodge No. 311.
Born Jan. 24, 1916, in Center Star, Ala., he was the son of Samuel E. and Lucy Riley Maples. He served 20 years in the Navy, retiring in 1955.
Mr. Maples is survived by his wife, Rose T. Maples, two sons, Mallie Edward Maples, Mineral, and Malcolm P. Maples Jr., Mamaroneck, N. Y., four sisters, two brothers and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted May 21 at the Mineral United Methodist Church by Rev. E. Thomas Murphy, Charlottesville District superintendent, Rev. Timothy Gerde and Rev. E. Benjamin Barbour. Interment was at Hillcrest Cemetery.
