Congratulations to our own Doug Butler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen E. Butler, who recently finished boot camp at Parris Island, S. C. , as the only recruit in a company of approximately 260 men to be meritoriously promoted from private to lance corporal. Butler, a 19- year-old United States Marine recruit, is a 1986 graduate of Culpeper County High School.
When he got to boot camp, Butler was also recognized as an honor man and he credits his success partly to the training he received during the three years he was enrolled in the Culpeper High School BOTC program. Butler will now be sent to Camp Lejeune, N. C., for six to nine weeks of combat engineering school and then on to his first duty station, an assignment which will probably take him overseas. He also says he plans to make a career of the military. His parents are operators of the Boston General Store.
